Half way through we know the top 3

The 2 London giants chasing the title both won 2 very definitive games – #Arsenal’s battling 1-0 AWAY at #NewcastleUnited to stay top and #Chelsea’s 2-1 win over now 5th place #Liverpool.
Equally significant though was the graft of a 1-0 win that #ManchesterCity pulled off at home with their almost 2nd string. It shows the depth City and Chelsea have and this, in the end, will mean that one of them will win the #EPL title this season.
#Everton’s back to winning ways (via an incredible #SeamusColeman goal – watch it if you can) means they end 2013 in that coveted 4th place but must be looking over their shoulder nervously as @ManUtd move just 3 points away from them after their extremely ‘shallow’ B squad managed to eek a 1-0 win away at the Canaries. #Tottenham’s 3-0 at home to #StokeCity shows them recovering post AVB – much like #Chelsea did once they had fired him as well.

We know now that this season will end with ManCity, Chelsea and Arsenal as the top 3. The 4th spot is up for grabs and Liverpool, Everton and dare-I-say, Man United will all be vying for it. Happy New Year!

Boxing day lesson: City will win the title

A fun 2-1 win for #ManchesterCity over #Liverpool and a typical 1-0 win for #JoseMourinho’s #Chelsea has made it quite clear that the title this year will go to either of them. #Arsenal stay on top for now thanks to a good win at #WestHam and the loss for Liverpool but that will not last long as Chelsea and City are now a point away from taking over. #Everton are off their winning run, while #Newcastle continue their top form to stay in the top 4 race. Renee Meulensteen’s recovery at #Fulham continues with yet another win and move into mid table.

@ManUtd earned a fairly impressive (and typical of the old United) comeback win from 0-2 down at Hull City to keep their slim hopes of a top 4 finish alive – barely.

Thank you #BoxingDay for the fun goalfest. The perfect antidote to Christmas Day debauchery.

Christmas is here and Arsenal are not top

Both #Arsenal and #Chelsea played out an all too cagey 0-0 at the Emirates, which means, as I expected, Arsenal will not finish the Christmas break as league leaders of the English Premier League. That claim goes to #Liverpool, who at the beginning of the season would have seemed even less likely than the Gunners to be at the top all thanks to one Señor @Luis16Suarez
#Everton and #Tottenham won impressive games yesterday to keep their top 4 hopes alive, while in Spain, #AtleticoMadrid continue their red hot streak to remain joint top with #Barcelona as @Cristiano Ronaldo is now (already!) the 4th highest goal scorer for #RealMadrid.
And in the completely useless FIFA World Club Cup competition, mighty #BayernMunich won easily to register their *gasp* 5th trophy from *gasp* 5 competitions they played in. *bows in respect*

The Christmas Break

So the big leagues in Europe, the Italian, Spanish, French and German will take a Christmas/holiday break. It’s a great opportunity for the players to take some time off and come back fresh in the first week of January to a hectic domestic and Champions League season ahead. The English Premier League, however, not only has no time off, the domestic games come thick and fast. By the time january rolls around, most of the big teams will be likely carrying injuries into the business-half of the season.

Sucks for the EPL teams. Awesome for those of us who get to watch games through the holidays!

Upside down Saturday

A win for #ManchesterUnited at Old Trafford – that too comfortably; #ManchesterCity are rapidly becoming true favorites for the title for now they are scoring like they do at home but do it away at Fulham in a 4-2 win; #LuisSuarez continues his red hot form to score another brace in a table-topping win for #Liverpool; #Newcastle continue their fine form with a big 3-0 away win at Crystal Palace but the big one to look forward to is the #Arsenal vs #Chelsea clash that will test the creds of a recently faltering Arsenal and an unconvincing Chelsea.
Meanwhile, the shocking home form of Dortmund in the Bundesliga sends them to another shock defeat and further strengthens mighty #BayernMunich’s hold on the title.

Champions League – main games to watch

It would have to be: #Bayern vs #Arsenal and #Barca vs #ManCity. Why?

Because the first will show just how far Arsenal still have to go.

While the second will show just how far City have come.

#ManchesterUnited, #Chelsea and #RealMadrid will be expected to go through to the next round without too much drama. The only upset here, if any, will be an RVP-less United going out on a last minute away goal to Olympiakos. It’s just that kind of year for them, isn’t it?
Expect #Dortmund to start coming to form with their injured players returning to the roster early next year.

Capital One Cup

A dogged @ManUtd overcome a physical #StokeCity to make it to the semi-finals of the #CapitalOneCup where they will meet #Sunderland, #ChelseaFC slayers from yesterday. #ManCity face #WestHam, who heaped more misery on #Tottenham by knocking them out of the Cup a day after they fired Andre Villas Boas as Manager (sidenote: which London club will fire AVB next?)
Could a @ManUtd vs #ManCity final be on the cards?
