Advantage Manchester City!

The ridiculous goal-machine that is #ManchesterCity put 5 past #Tottenham to go top of the #EPL as @ChelseaFC are held to a frustrating 0-0 at home to #WestHamUnited. #AstonVilla come from 2-0 down to win a 4-3 thriller against #WestBrom and #AdamJohnson continues his incredible scoring run to help #Sunderland squeak past #Stoke and get out of the last 3 – for now.

It’ll take something special from Chelsea and Arsenal if they are to somehow win the EPL from the hands of this Manchester City side. If @FCBarcelona aren’t scared, they should be. I’d be surprised if they can get past City in their #ChampionsLeague knockout games!

Elsewhere in the #Bundesliga, mighty #BayernMunich come from behind at #Stuttgart to win 2-1 with goals from unlikely sources in Pizarro and Thiago Alcantara. This team wins even when it plays badly. That’s what maketh a Champion!

In the #CopaDelRey, Diego Costa takes #AtleticoMadrid past #Bilbao and #Barcelona lead 2-1 against lowly #Levante.

Merseyside belongs to Liverpool today!

2 goals by #DanielSturridge and one each by @luis16suarez and #StevenGerrard bury an otherwise impressive #Everton 4-0 at #Anfield to jump back into 4th; #Southampton hold #Arsenal 2-2 in a fun game; a #YohanCabaye less (he’s off to mighty #PSG) #Newcastle struggle to a 0-0 draw at Norwich.
Powered by the return of #RVP and @WayneRooney and showcasing their new shiny signing, @JuanMata8, @ManUtd cantered to a 2-0 win over #Cardiff on the return of one of their favorite sons (#Solskjaer – he’s coach at Cardiff City now). Will this start their push for 4th spot?

And in Spain in the #CopaDelRey #RealMadrid put one past #Espanyol to advance and surprisingly @Cristiano Ronaldo wasn’t the scorer. Imagine that!

£37 million + 2 reasons Juan Mata is headed to Manchester United

Most think this is a crazy move by #Chelsea and question the logic behind #JoseMourinho agreeing to this £37 million sale. He was Chelsea’s best player 2 seasons in a row and they’ve gone and sold him to an arch rival like @ManUtd! But it really isn’t as crazy as you might think and here’s why: 1. Mourinho prefers a strong aggressive and fast midfield of #EdenHazard, #Oscar, #Willian, #Schurrle and #Matic and who can blame him? They are absolutely fantastic and getting better by the game. So fitting a the creative and artistic #JuanMata is proving to be difficult. And with the #FIFA2013WorldCup around the corner, Mata needs serious minutes to be able to break into that incredible Spanish side. And United desperately need a creative midfielder, so minutes he’ll get! 2. Mourinho does not see United as a title challenger this year, obviously. He’s already played United twice, so he doesn’t have to face them again this season. BUT his main title rivals, #ManchesterCity and #Arsenal both have a game against United left this season and he would LOVE for United to beat them both if possible. If they do, Chelsea wins the title. And Mata certainly helps, especially if @WayneRooney and #RVP are fit again, United can beat most teams if they play well. 3. Worrying about next season is irrelevant. United will spend BIG in the summer in any case and buy the likes of Gundogan/Vidal/Reus/Koke etc etc, so worrying about them makes no sense now. And for the premium of £37 million, it just frees up funds for Mourinho to go acquire a striker he truly craves. A WIN-WIN methinks.

And now @ManUtd are out of the #CarlingCup!

As #ManchesterCity completed a 9-0 aggregate victory over #WestHamUnited, Manchester United are knocked out on penalties – (by far the worst set of penalties taken by any two teams in the history of shoot-outs) by #Sunderland. The need for the #JuanMata signing that is apparently just around the corner becomes even more necessary. As fantastic as #AdnanJanuzaj continues to be for United, much of the squad is terribly mediocre. If @WayneRooney and #RVP cannot be fit for the next game, this streak of losses will continue unabated.

Truth be told, this semi-final loss to Sunderland only saved this United team from getting annihilated by the beasts from Manchester City in the final. Now it’ll be Sunderland who will be lambs to that slaughter.

In Italy, #Roma pulled off a fab win over mighty #Juventus to knock them out of the Coppa Italia, while #Udinese knocked #ACMilan out today. #RealMadrid are through as will #Barca most likely. Fun times, midweek!

Jose’s clear ‘I should have been the chosen one’ statement!

As predicted, #Chelsea easily beat @ManUtd 3-1 at #StamfordBridge after a rare #SamuelEto hat-trick.

The writing is clearly on the wall: United without RVP or Rooney had no chance of scoring (even with good possession) and apart from the very talented #AdnanJanuzaj there was little threat from them. #Welbeck is a B-rate striker on a good day. #DavidMoyes is a good man but seems completely out of his depth at United. His inability to change tactics and the game when things aren’t going his way is proving very costly to United’s chances of a top 4 finish.

#Tottenham’s impressive 3-1 win away at #Swansea means that the battle between #Everton, Spurs and #Liverpool for that 4th spot will make United’s slim hopes slimmer still.

Lambs to the slaughter?

In today’s games, #ManchesterCity continued flexing their unbelievable goal-scoring prowess by hitting the fastest 100 goals in #EPL history as they scored 4 past #Cardiff; #Arsenal were silky, smooth and defensively solid as #Cazorla’s double took them past #Fulham to remain top, #Newcastle were again impressive in their 3-1 win at an alarmingly slumping #Westham (Will Big Sam keep his job past January?)  while #Liverpool got very very lucky to be rewarded a super soft penalty to come from behind to draw against the best #AstonVilla performance of the season. In the #SerieA #Juventus’ inevitable march to their title defense continues unabated as they strolled past Sampdoria 4-2.

When @ManUtd travel to #Chelsea later today, without @WayneRooney or #RobinVanPersie, expecting anything but a mauling at the hands of a very good Chelsea side would be just silly. Expect United’s brittle midfield to be over-run by the brilliant #EdenHazard, #Oscar, #Willian, #Mata, #Schurrle and now #Matic.

Finally, it’s #Cristiano Ronaldo again

CR7 has finally won the Ballon d’or again after 4 years of #LionelMessi dominance.

While #FranckRibery might feel a bit aggrieved given how much success he brought mighty #Bayern in 2013, the fact remains that CR7 has been unbelievable through 2013 for both #RealMadrid and #Portugal.

Go enjoy this. We all know how badly you’ve wanted it!

5 star #Liverpool; Table-topping #ManCity

When @luis16suarez and @D_sturridge play together, Liverpool win and often win big. Their 5-3 win at #Stoke was an insanely fun game to watch!

#ManchesterCity survived a contentious disallowed goal for #NewcastleUnited, which could have changed the game entirely but went on to win 2-0 and go top of the #EPL for now – #Arsenal still have to play at #AstonVilla tomorrow.

A brave top 4 prediction this early in the season: 1. Manchester City; 2. #Chelsea; 3. Arsenal; 4. Liverpool.

The top of the table #LaLiga clash between #Barcelona and #AtleticoMadrid ebded 0-0 but showed just how serious a title contender Atleti are. #DouglasCosta and #Koke are genuinely fantastic and you can see why @ManUtd and Arsenal are chasing them desperately.

The 2-0 Saturday #EPL

A 2-0 win for #Chelsea sends them to the top of the EPL (for now – both #Arsenal and #ManchesterCity play tomorrow), a spot, which many argue they might end up at come final game of the season, unless City show otherwise. With #Tottenham and #Everton getting really important 2-0 wins themselves, the battle for that critical 4th #ChampionsLeague spot is heating up nicely. If #Liverpool, Arsenal and City win tomorrow, the top 4 get jumbled up again. How cool for a neutral?

@ManUtd managed a 2-0 win against #Swansea at their least favorite ground – HOME(!) but it was really painful to watch, aside from the very talented Adnan Januzaj. Energy-less, spine-less and in the absence of the injured @WayneRooney and @Persie_Official and what one might call a real midfield, threat-less! An important win to keep them 4 points off the top 4 but does little more than to paper over the cracks.

At the bottom, a stunning 4-1 win for #Sunderland at #Fulham lift them to within 1 point from safety, for now.

Manchester is dominant again! (Manchester City that is)

After another pathetic performance by the post #SirAlex @ManUtd, it’s incredible to watch the best team in England (from Manchester, just not United) demolish yet another hapless opponent in the form of a poor #WestHam by a resounding 6-0 margin in the first leg of the #CarlingCup semi-final. They were dominant, fast, fun to watch and scored goals from open play and at will. You know, like the Manchester United of yore.

City will win the #EPL title, the Carling Cup and will ruffle a few feathers in the #ChampionsLeague. If you haven’t been watching them play, you should. But only if you love fast flowing goal-laden football.
