Could this be the year of the ‘Decima’?

A 6-star performance by #RealMadrid in Germany against #Schalke means that Real are now through to the next round (barring a miracle at the #Bernebeu). The #CristianoRonaldo + #GarethBale combination is rather lethal to say the least! What it also highlights is just how poor the #Bundesliga teams are once you get past the phenomenal #BayernMunich and the super fun to watch #BorussiaDortmund.

The #EPL teams on the other hand need to seriously look themselves – with hundreds of millions of £’s on show, they’ve all come unstuck against superior European opposition. #Chelsea started well and went into the lead at #Galatasaray but rapidly lost control of the game and should consider themselves lucky to come away with a 1-1 draw and now still favorite to go through when the teams play at the Bridge in 2 weeks.

The worst United performance!

As the away teams all got results (thus far) in the #ChampionsLeague, (#Dortmund accounted for Zenit 4-2 earlier today with goals from the excellent #Reus and #Lewandowski) #ManchesterUnited played the most boring, ineffective and rubbish football seen in the Champions League. Under #DavidMoyes they certainly seem lethargic and uninspired but the fact that they are a team with no plan, tactics or style is unforgivable for a team of their size and stature. Their 2-0 loss away to #Olympiakos (yes, Olympiakos) was a much deserved defeat and one that is going to take a lot to overturn in 2 weeks at #OldTrafford.

If this is not going to be the end of David Moyes era, I’m not sure how much more United need to fall for that to happen.

Chelsea’s title winning game?

A very last minute #JohnTerry goal gave #Chelsea a narrow 1-0 win against a solid #Everton to keep them on top of the table in the #EPL.

It’s the kind of key, grinding win that wins you the title. We’ll look back at this 12 games from now and think, is this where they won it?

#Arsenal recovered from their midweek heartache to easily win 4-1 against #Sunderland and stay second. #ManCity squeaked past #Stoke to stay 3rd; #WestHam continue their impressive resurgence to beat #Southampton 3-1 and finally, a £300,000 per week powered #WayneRooney (he’ll end his career at #ManchesterUnited now after signing a 5 year deal) missile and an #RVP penalty helped United to a 2-0 win away to #CrystalPalace and up to 6th. If by some miracle #Liverpool or #Tottenham fail to win tomorrow (won’t happen) they’ll be within 8 of 4th. Which means, like last week, they still have no chance of #ChampionsLeague soccer next season 🙂

Elsewhere, #RealMadrid won easily against Elche and #BorussiaDortmund continue their odd season with a 3-0 thumping at the hands of #Hamburg.

Away goal advantage continues!

A penalty miss each by #MesutOzil and #DavidAlaba followed by a beautiful #ToniKroos strike and a last minute #ThomasMuller header mean that mighty #BayernMunich take a super valuable 2-0 away goal lead from the #Emirates against 10-man #Arsenal – and yes, the red card was deserved.

In Milan, #AtleticoMadrid powered by a fantastic header by #DiegoCosta and 2 fabulous saves by the best goalkeeper in Europe #ThibaultCourtois (he’s owned by #Cheslea btw) mean that #ACMilan need to find some magic to overcome this impressive Atletico side when they visit Madrid for the return leg.

Champions League – Home defeats decide fate of ManCity and Leverkusen

The light blues of #ManchesterCity were taught a lesson in efficient futbol by a very typical #Barcelona as they took a near assailable 2-0 away goal lead at the #Etihad earlier today. #ManuelPellegrini accused the referee of blatantly being partial to Barcelona as he gave #LionelMessi a penalty at the edge of the box, thus sending off the absolutely useless Demichelis (and surprising purchase by City). Pellegrini will be fined, disciplined and could not be more wrong about his assessment. Demichelis was late, bumbling and tripped up Messi right on the line, which resulted in a totally fair penalty and red card.

In the other game, the ever-improving #PSG (and genuine #ChampionsLeague contenders) absolutely thrashed #BayerLeverkusen 4-0 away in Germany, rendering the return leg in Paris almost entirely unnecessary. That beast also known as #Zlatan scored another screamer and is rapidly showing that at PSG he’s becoming a big game player in Europe (something he’s been accused of failing to do in the past).

What can #Arsenal do against the visiting (and marauding) Bavarians in tomorrow’s first leg against #BayernMunich? Which Arsenal will show up tomorrow?

Revenge week!

A dominant #ManchesterCity kept their quadruple hopes alive by thrashing #Chelsea 2-0 to knock them out of the #FACUP in a game where the scoreline should have been closer to 4-0. An equally dominant #Liverpool should have thrashed #Arsenal yet again at the #Emirates but a series of bad finishes, great saves by #Fabianski and an obvious penalty not awarded to #LuisSuarez (his theatrical fall must have deterred Webb from giving what was an otherwise obvious penalty) meant that they were knocked out 2-1, very undeservedly.

After midweek’s mauling at the hands of Liverpool for Arsenal and that comprehensive win for Chelsea at Man City, this was revenge weekend, successfully executed.

Elsewhere in Europe, massive wins for #Juventus #Barcelona #RealMadrid #AtleticoMadrid #BayernMunich and #BorussiaDortmund combined with a much overdue and hugely moral boosting win for #InterMilan against the viola of #Fiorentina sealed a goal-filled weekend.

Ho-hum at Arsenal but Liverpool soar!

A boring 0-0 at the #Emirates stadium shows just how far #ManchesterUnited have fallen – #RVP had 2 gilt-edged chances that he would have buried at any other time in history and just how bad #Arsenal’s January/February often are. Even with #Chelsea dropping 2 points in a draw at #WestBrom, the Gunners didn’t really look like scoring and miss a great opportunity to go top.

Manchester United are very boring and labored to watch under the tactics (or lack thereof) of #DavidMoyes. He’s a coach without nous and must go.

#Tottenham took advantage of the plight of #Newcastle to beat them 4-0 away in an #Adebayor powered performance while #Liverpool continue their fantastic form and resilience to come back from 2-1 at #Fulham to snatch a thrilling 3-2 win to all but guarantee their 4th spot but also start chatter about finishing even higher what with both Chelsea and Arsenal dropping points.

Mighty #BayernMunich destroy #Hamburg 5-0 (surprise surprise) and Barcelona are cruising to what will be a thrilling #Classico in the #CopaDelRey against #RealMadrid while a fabulous comeback from #Napoli see them beat #Roma 3-0 to win 5-3 on aggregate.

The anti-Fergie time!

Remember when #ManchesterUnited trailed 2-0 at #OldTrafford with 3 minutes to go and as #SAF tapped his watch (turned out to be a fake timer if you read his autobiography) you just knew they would end up winning 3-2 somehow. Now, they lead 2-1 at minute 93 and allow a last minute goal to #Fulham – the bottom of the #EPL team to drop another 2 very critical points. With 85% possession United were toothless in attack even with #RVP #WayneRooney #JuanMata on the pitch. #DavidMoyes does not inspire confidence in his players (here at United atleast) and doesn’t seem to have any meaningful strategy for how they play, especially when things aren’t going his way, which is OFTEN! 4th spot buh-bye. Although, one wishes it was Moyes buh-bye.

#Tottenham eked out an important as can be 1-0 win over #Everton, which keeps them in that 4th spot hunt. The post #AVB era at Spurs seems to be working rather well. Much like the post-AVB era did at #Chelsea. He’s magic when he’s sacked, isn’t he?

5 star Gunner destruction!

Yes, that just happened – #Liverpool thrashed a hapless #Arsenal 5-1 at #Anfield thereby delivering a massive blow to the Gunners title chances and to @ManUtd false hopes of making it to 4th! #ManchesterCity also slipped up with a 0-0 draw against #Norwich; #WestHamUnited pulled off a fabulous 2-0 away at #AstonVilla; #Swansea dusted off their sacking of #Laudrup with a 3-0 derby win over #Cardiff and #Sunderland’s run of wins was halted by a home loss to #HullCity. The bottom of the table is more exciting than it’s ever been!

But it’s the ‘little horse’ in the title race, as #JoseMourinho put it that made the 2nd title statement in 2 weeks as #Chelsea thrashed the rapidly ailing #NewcastleUnited 3-0 via an #EdenHazard hat-trick (who is rapidly becoming the #Messi of the #EPL) to go top of the table!

Elsewhere, Mighty #Bayern, Exciting #Dortmund and a #CR7 less #RealMadrid all won well! Will #ManchesterUnited trip up again tomorrow?

The genius of Jose Mourinho

Everyone expected @ChelseaFC to park the bus at the #Etihad to prevent the free-scoring #ManchesterCity from destroying the Chelsea defense. But what unfolded just now shows why #JoseMourinho is still the smartest coach there is and why @ManUtd were absolutely foolish to pick the hapless #DavidMoyes over him – a brilliant attacking display saw Chelsea win 1-0 away at City but they could have won by a wider margin. The #EPL title race is as hot as it’s ever been after #Arsenal beat Crystal Palace 2-0 again at home. The battle for 4th remains open as a Kolo Toure howler saw #Liverpool drop points against WestBrom.

Mighty #BayernMunich destroyed Eintracht 5-0 (what’s new?) while in Spain, @Cristiano Ronaldo’s sending off meant that #RealMadrid drew 1-1 with #Bilbao while #Barcelona were upset at home by #Valencia and #AtleticoMadrid’s 4-0 rout of Real Sociedad means that they go 3 points clear at the top of the #LaLiga.
