A #ManchesterUnited that was missing almost 7 first team players and featured names like #Rashford (18) #Varela (22) #Fosu-Mensah (18) #Weir (20) #Lingaard (23) should have been a cakewalk for an in-form and fully loaded #Arsenal when they visited #OldTrafford today – instead they put on a spineless powder puff performance and lost 3-2 to a United team that had no business getting anything out of this game, on paper at the very least, putting a serious dent in their title hopes with another 2 goals from the impressive young striker Marcus Rashford, who now has 4 goals from the 2 games he’s played for the #RedDevils. But this is end February and this is exactly when the #Gunners promising season starts going off the rails – they’ll be out of the #ChampionsLeague soon and with an away game coming up to the fabulous title chasing #Tottenham, who came from behind at #WhiteHartLane to beat #Swansea 2-1 keeping them firmly in the title chase, 2 points behind leaders #Leicester, #Wenger’s men will likely see themselves a good 7-8 points off the top by next weekend.
The real entertainment wasn’t on the pitch though. It was provided by #LouisVanGaal, who uncharacteristically came off his bench and while arguing with the 4th assistant about a soft foul awarded to a diving #Sanchez, proceeded to theatrically fall to the ground to illustrate his point. The #IronTulip sure gets weirder by the day!
#ManchesterCity survived the absolutely profligate finishing by #Sterling to win the #CarlingCup for outgoing charming man #ManuelPellegrini as they beat #Liverpool on penalties, thanks to 3 fabulous saves by #WillyCaballero. City might just end up with just this piece of silverware and for a coach as dignified as Manuel, going out with atleast some silverware would be a fitting farewell.
Over in Europe, record-breaking #Juventus continued their amazing run as they felled #Inter 2-0 to go clear at the top of the #SerieA, which is utterly incredible when you consider that they were in last place not too long ago. #PSG’s unbeaten run was abruptly halted at #Lyon as they lost 1-2 and over in #LaLiga, another brilliant #Messi free-kick followed by a #Pique goal gave #Barcelona a come-from-behind 2-1 win against visiting #Sevilla. They are now 8 clear of #Atletico at the top of the table and look untouchable (and oh-so fantastic to watch). And finally, over in the #Bundesliga, #Dortmund brought mighty #Bayern’s lead the top to 8 points (ho-hum) thanks to a 3-1 spanking of 10-man #Hoffenheim, keeping them firm favorites to come in 2nd (the actual first for the teams that aren’t Bayern).
